Counselling provides you with a confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions. As an integrative counsellor, I use a number of different approaches in my work with you, blending different things to tailor our sessions to what you need. My work is rooted in trauma informed care, which recognises the impact of trauma on an individual's life and prioritises safety, trust and collaboration. I ask the questions 'what happened to you and what is right with you'. I use approaches drawn from person centred therapy, psychodynamic therapy, internal family systems theory and somatic ideas within my work, amongst others.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes - what is often called a therapeutic hour - and I work online, with a limited number of in person appointments available.
I offer a 15-20 minute free telephone consultation to get to know you a little bit, to hear the headlines of your story and why you're looking for counselling. This also gives you the chance to ask any questions you may have and us both the chance to decide whether we think we're a good fit for each other. This consultation is obligation free - it's really important that you find the right counsellor for you!
How long will we work together?
Sessions are open ended, so there is no set time we will work together for. We will normally contract for six sessions initially, and then we review and make choices from there. Part of our contract will be about confidentiality and what that means.
I work with adults (18+) and also with teenagers from 14 upwards.
The relationship between us is an important part of our work, and like any relationship will take some time to develop. It's unlikely counselling will be a quick fix! Endings are also important, so although sometimes it may feel difficult to keep coming, I recommend you do and we can work with the difficulty together. Ending well can be a powerful tool.
What about the cost?
Sessions cost £60 for a therapeutic hour. Sessions may be available at a concession rate for trainee counsellors. I ask for 48 hours notice if you need to cancel, otherwise I will need to charge you for the session. Payment is made by a bank transfer, and a link will be provided for this.
